STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s Department of Music is hosting a chamber music recital Sept. 22 and a cello and piano recital Oct. 5 on ̫ӳ’s campus.
Assistant Professor of Cello Amy Catron presents “A Fine Romance” this Sunday [Sept. 22] at 4 p.m. in the lecture-recital hall of the Music Building, located at 124 Hardy Road. The chamber music recital features two clarinet trios, Op. 114 by famous German composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) and Op. 40 by Austrian composer Carl Frühling (1868-1937). Though both trios are in A minor, each strikes harmony, balance and color in distinct ways. Catron will be joined by two guest faculty artists from Troy University: Timothy Phillips, clarinet, and Benjamin Crook, piano.
Additionally, Catron hosts a cello and piano recital at 4 p.m. on Oct. 5 in the Music Building’s lecture-recital hall. “Vignettes” showcases music from Debussy and Schumann as well as works by female composers Nadia Boulanger, Amy Beach, Nelly Li Puma and Berta Josephine Hecker. Each musical vignette is paired with another, highlighting various styles of music from French impressionism to German romanticism and Latino styles. Catron will be joined by ̫ӳ piano faculty members Rosângela Sebba, Sophie Wang and Anne Katherine Ragsdale.
