STARKVILLE, Miss.—Five acts spanning a variety of genres will entertain fans with live performances during the Mississippi State Lyceum Series’ upcoming 76th season.

The 2023-24 event year begins with a performance by Kings Return, a Grammy-nominated acapella vocal group, at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 in Lee Hall’s historic Bettersworth Auditorium. Drawing from R&B, jazz, gospel and pop influences, the group defies the constraints of a single musical genre and explores a myriad of sonic shades and textures. For more information, visit .

Other fall and spring Lyceum events, which are all scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Bettersworth Auditorium, include:

—Nov. 16, Masters of Soul, a Motown review authentically reproducing the look, choreography and style made famous by Motown Records, Stax and other hit-making record labels. For more information, visit .

—Feb. 6, 2024, “Cross That River: A Story of a Black Cowboy,” a fictional musical journey about one of America’s first Black cowboys. This compelling tale of freedom was composed by Allan Harris, an award-winning jazz vocalist and musician who legendary crooner Tony Bennett called “my favorite singer.” For more information, visit .

—Feb. 29, 2024, Hiplet Ballerinas, a Chicago, Illinois-based troupe that fuses classical pointe technique with African, Latin, hip-hop and urban dance styles rooted in communities of color. For more information, visit .

—March 27, 2024, the Hip-Hop Orchestra Experience featuring Ensemble Mik Nawooj, led by composer and pianist JooWan Kim. The performance is part concert, dance party and club night featuring original music that samples from classical and hip-hop—all presented in an underground setting like the New York City scene that birthed hip-hop. Their music uniquely challenges MCs and classical musicians to push the boundaries of both hip-hop and concert music, creating something completely new. For more information, visit .
