STARKVILLE, Miss.—The Institute for the Humanities at Mississippi State will spotlight short research presentations by three 2023 faculty fellows, who also will take questions about their work during a May 2 panel session, free and open to the public.
The noon event takes place in Allen Hall, Room 210.
Part of ̫ӳ’s College of Arts and Sciences, the institute’s current fellows and their presentations include:
—“Suspending Latin American Hegemonic Narratives,” by Sol Pelaez, associate professor, Department of Classical and Modern Languages.
—“Monumental Designs: Infrastructure and the Culture of the Tennessee Valley Authority,” by Ted Atkinson, associate professor, Department of English.
—“Cassius Marcellus Clay and Antislavery America” by Anne E. Marshall, associate professor, Department of History.
Julia Osman, institute director and associate professor of history, said the fellows program, “allows faculty some of the much-needed time to analyze research and collect data so that they can publish books or articles on their particular topics.
“I am excited for them to share their works in progress with the university and the public, so that anyone can see what kind of work humanities scholars are tackling. This also is an opportunity for people to ask about these scholars’ topics and work methods,” Osman said.
The faculty members were awarded their fellowships in August 2022, and they began in January of this year. They are members of the institute’s second fellowship cohort.
The event will be streamed on the Institute for the Humanities Facebook page at .
