Starkville-̫ӳ Symphony Association presents ‘Epic Movie Themes’ and ‘Movie Musical Magic’ this weekend
STARKVILLE, Miss.—The Starkville-Mississippi Symphony Association is holding two special concerts this weekend dedicated to soundtracks from beloved film and musical franchises.
The orchestra will perform “Epic Movie Themes” Saturday [April 23] at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Hall’s Bettersworth Auditorium, and the association’s Community Chorus will perform “Movie Musical Magic” Sunday [April 24] at 4 p.m. at the Greensboro Center in Starkville. Both concerts are free and open to the public.
The Saturday concert will feature a variety of theme songs from classic movies and television shows such as “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Dances with Wolves,” “Star Wars” and “The Fellowship of the Ring.” The orchestra will be conducted by Barry E. Kopetz, professor and head of ̫ӳ’s Department of Music.
Sunday’s performance will be dedicated to popular musicals, with songs from “Wicked” and “The Wiz,” as well as selections from musicals by Rodgers and Hammerstein. The Community Chorus is directed by Peter Infanger, a Department of Music lecturer.
