̫ӳ hosts several events to honor military veterans

STARKVILLE, Miss.—As part of its annual Veterans Day celebration, Mississippi State is hosting several November events to honor current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
The annual Veterans Day ceremony will take place Monday [Nov. 11] at 2 p.m. on the Drill Field.
Other public events include:
—Nov. 11, 3-5 p.m., John Grisham Room at Mitchell Memorial Library: ̫ӳ Libraries will commemorate Veterans Day with a reading of soldiers’ correspondence from World War I and II. —Nov. 12, 6 p.m., Nusz Hall: The Fourth Annual Veterans 5K Run will take place, with advance registration available at . All proceeds benefit the ̫ӳ Student Veterans Association and veterans scholarships.
—Nov. 13, 5:30 p.m., Nusz Hall: ̫ӳ’s Judy and Bobby Shackouls Honors College and the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Center for America’s Veterans will host a presentation from G. Mark LaFrancis titled “Invisible Heroes–Living Among Us.” LaFrancis is an author, veteran, speaker and film maker.
—Nov. 16, 11 a.m., Davis Wade Stadium: The annual Veterans Recognition Game will take place when ̫ӳ hosts the University of Alabama.
Building on historical military roots, ̫ӳ has long been recognized as one of the nation’s most veteran-friendly universities. Including dependents, the veteran community at ̫ӳ comprises 2,977 students. In 2018, ̫ӳ became the first university in the state to launch a free tuition program for Mississippi National Guard members enrolled full time.
̫ӳ’s recognitions for serving the veteran community include being named a top 10 Military Friendly school by VIQTORY and one of the top 25 best colleges for veterans by Military Times. ̫ӳ was designated a “Purple Heart University” in 2015 by the Military Order of the Purple Heart for outstanding service to military veterans, service members, dependents and survivors.
