STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State students in the Day One Leadership Community heard from Starkville Mayor Lynn Spruill today [Nov. 9] during one of the program’s last Friday Forum meetings of the semester.

Throughout the fall, incoming freshmen in the Day One two-credit hour elective class meet in small “Action Teams” on Mondays and Wednesdays. Friday speakers address the collective student group to relate their lived and professional experiences to leadership and service lessons.

Spruill told students about her background in military and governmental positions, including her experiences as a pilot. The ̫ӳ business graduate spent six years in the U.S. Navy and more than 19 years as a pilot with Delta Airlines. She also completed degrees in law and public policy.

Spruill applauded students who exercised their right to vote in this week’s mid-term elections and thanked them for their community service.

“We appreciate your engagement with Starkville,” she said, adding her invitation for students to enjoy the local downtown area and other aspects of the city.

Day One students complete at least 20 service hours as they work with community partners on service-learning projects. For more about the program, visit .
