Acclaimed marimba soloist, educator performs April 19 with ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ Percussion Ensemble

STARKVILLE, Miss.—An internationally acclaimed marimba soloist and professor will join Mississippi State’s Percussion Ensemble in concert Tuesday [April 19] at the university’s Band and Choral Rehearsal Hall on South Hardy Road.

Free to all, the 7:30 p.m. performance featuring Mark Ford of the University of North Texas is being conducted by Jason Baker, associate professor of music and director of the ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ music department’s percussion studies.

In addition to the university’s Percussion Club, music department and bands, Ford’s campus visit is made possible with support from Dynasty Percussion Instruments, Innovative Percussion, Evans/D’Addario, Zildjian and Latin Percussion Inc.

Coordinator of percussion activities at UNT, Ford is a past president of the Percussive Arts Society. With several marimba and percussion CDs to his credit, he actively performs at universities and music conferences throughout the United States, as well as international music festivals across Europe, Asia and South America.
