ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ responds to bomb threat

THE FOLLOWING IS A STATEMENT FROM ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ CHIEF COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER SID SALTER:
ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ received a bomb threat through the campus telephone operator late this afternoon. The call was transferred to the ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ Police Department. The ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ PD immediately began an orderly sweep of populated areas of the campus with both an explosive-detecting canine and ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ PD officers, concentrating first on residence halls and the areas where Boys State and Cheerleader Camps guests are located. At this time, ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ believes that our campus buildings have been inspected and are secured. We are working with our partners in the Boys State and Cheerleader Camp programs to ensure their safety and to coordinate the continuation of their use of our campus.
As a matter of policy, we take all such threats seriously and govern our response accordingly. The university will not release additional details, as this threat remains an ongoing investigation.
